Build A Barn

Born and raised in Glenboro, Manitoba, John had always been an avid supporter of minor sports in the community.  Sadly, John was suddenly taken from us on April 11th of 2012 from a sudden heart attack.  Of John's passions were children and hockey.  John was always involved in minor sports from playing, refereeing, coaching, and in helping run the Glenboro Minor Sports for decades.  John had been involved with our minor sports program in some capacity for over 30 years.  His only renumeration for years of service to the community and the minor sports program was free admittance to any game held in the Glenboro Arena.  John used his "free pass" to the maximum.  John spent hours watching every team play hockey.  John, like so many other passionate Glenboro sports fans, often commented that if he won the lottery, he would build the community a new arena.  Following his passing,an account was opend in his memory where all donations will  be put towards building a new arena.

The Old Barn...

Our arena started its life as an aircraft hangar and was assembled in Glenboro in the late 1940's after World War II.  During their free time, our children are constantly using the arena for public skating, shinny and figure skating.  As well as serving minor sports needs, the arena is integral for the high school hockey program, senior hockey and many other rec teams.  Our community has produced athletes that have competed at various levels, including junior, university and professional hockey.  We have even produced a national champion!

The New Barn...

Building a new arena with today's construction costs is a monumental task for a small town and surrounding community.  A new arena is very important to the community and building one has become a community initiative.  Our first of many fundraising events is the "Build-a-Barn" John Tosh Memorial Golf Tournament and Community Auction.  This will bring us one step closer to achieving this dream.
